International Day of Radiology (IDoR) 2021 Monday, 8 November
The IDoR is an annual event promoting the role of medical imaging in modern health care. It helps to build greater awareness of the value that Radiology contributes to safe patient care. It is celebrated on November 8, every year which coincides with the anniversary of the discovery of Xrays by Dr. Wilhelm Conrad Rontgen on November 8,1895. The IDoR was launched in 2012, a joint initiative of the European Society of Radiology (ESR) the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) and the American College of Radiology (ACR). The IDoR is now being celebrated by nearly 200 national, sub specialty and related societies around the world. Indian Radiological and Imaging Association (IRIA) is proudly taking part in the tenth Annual IDoR , November 8, 2021- the 126th anniversary of the discovery of Xray. Medical Imaging makes a world of difference every single day. On the IDoR, we celebrate the many innovations in Radiology research, diagnosis and treatment that have revolutionized modern medicine and saved countless lives. For IDoR 2021, the motto is “Interventional Radiology –Active care for the patient”. With this, we invite everyone to celebrate the essential role that interventional Radiology plays in treating patients. Interventional Radiology (IR) is a medical sub specialty of Radiology utilizing minimally invasive image guided procedures to diagnose and treat diseases in nearly every organ system. Examples of treatments administered by interventional radiologists include angioplasty, stenting, thrombolysis, embolization, image guided thermal ablation, biopsies etc. These minimally invasive treatments can cure or alleviate symptoms of vascular disease, stroke, uterine fibroids or cancer. Interventional Radiology is an advanced treatment alternative to traditional surgery. Through a tiny incision in your skin, interventional radiologists are able to deliver precise treatment for common and life threatening conditions. Interventional Radiology is also a way to diagnose and treat cancer and other conditions without major surgery. In general, interventional therapy is safe and commonly associated with only minor side effects.
