Islamabad: At least 57 people were killed in crash of a Pakistan passenger plane at a residential complex near Jinnah International Airport in Karachi on Friday afternoon, which was carrying over 100 passengers including crew members.
Sindh health department said that so far 57 people have been confirmed dead. However it is yet unclear if the deceased were all onboard the flight or include area residents as well where the crash took place, Dawn reported.
Three people are confirmed to have survived the crash, according to officials.The plane, belonging to Pakistan International Airlines (PIA)--A320 Airbus--was carrying 90 passengers and eight crew members from Lahore to Karachi on flight number PK 8303, airlines spokesperson Abdullah Hafeez said.
As per witnesses the plane attempted landing two or three times before crashing at Karachi's Model Colony near the airport.
Director programming of 24 News Ansar Naqvi and Bank of Punjab president Zafar Masood were among the passengers. Masood's family has confirmed that he survived the crash, the report said.
