Riyadh: Saudi Arabia registered on Thursday 1,644 new COVID-19 cases, increasing the total infections to 80,185. Among the accumulated cases, 25,191 are active cases, including 429 in critical condition, the health ministry said in a statement carried by the Saudi Press Agency. The kingdom registered in the last 24 hours 3,531 recoveries, raising the total recovered cases to 54,553.
Sixteen deaths were reported on Thursday, increasing the fatalities to 441. The ministry announced that 16,428 coronavirus tests were carried out to bring the total tests to 770,696. It warned that the virus is extremely dangerous and spreads easily among all age groups with the elderly and people with chronic diseases at more risks. Saudi Arabia and China have supported each other in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic.
In mid-February, the kingdom offered generous support to China to help fight the deadly virus at the early stage of its outbreak. On April 26, the two sides signed a deal worth 265 million U.S. dollars for expanding Saudi Arabia''s coronavirus testing capacity.
