Nomination papers of Sharif, Qureshi approved by NA
Islamabad: Nomination papers of Pakistan joint opposition's candidate Shahbaz Sharif and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)'s Shah Mahmood Qureshi for the prime minister's post have been approved by the National Assembly (NA) of Pakistan.
The NA on Sunday announced that the nomination papers of both candidates were scrutinised, after which they were accepted. To elect the new prime minister, the assembly will convene at 2 pm on Monday. On March 8, Sharif, joint Opposition's candidate for prime minister, had tabled the no-confidence motion in the Assembly against Imran Khan.
The voting on the no-confidence took place after the NA debated on the matter for over 12 hours in which Imran Khan lost the trust vote, becoming the first PM in Pakistan's history to be ousted by a No-Confidence Motion. The opposition's no-trust motion against Imran Khan succeeded an hour past midnight on Sunday, with 174 members in the 342-strong house voting in favour of the resolution.
