US, UK ask citizens to stay away from Serena hotel in Kabul

Kabul, The US State Department and the British Foreign Ministry have warned their citizens based in Kabul of potential threats and attacks and asked them to stay away from the Serena hotel in the Afghan capital.
A statement released by the Department of State on Monday, reads that all US citizens should stay away from all the central hotels of Kabul city, Khaama news agency reported.
“US citizens who are at or near the Serena Hotel should leave immediately,” the US State Department said, citing “security threats” in the area.
“In light of the increased risks you are advised not to stay in hotels, particularly in Kabul (such as the Serena Hotel),” Britain's Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office added.
The Department of State and British Foreign Ministry said that there are threats of attacks from the Islamic State-Khorasan.
Serena hotel situated in downtown Kabul city is the biggest residence for foreign citizens and is well-known for its security and services.
It has twice been the target of attacks by the Taliban, in 2014 and 2008.
