Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala Food and Civil Supplies Minister GR Anil inaugurated the distribution of 'Smart Ration Card' to all the MLAs at the Speaker's office in the State Legislative Assembly here on Tuesday. The Minister inaugurated the event by handing over Smart Ration Cards to Assembly Speaker MB Rajesh, Finance Minister KN Balagopal and Opposition leader VD Satheesan.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said ration cards were converted into 'Smart Cards' by modifying its shape and size of ATM cards. The ration card will show the photo of the owner, barcode, QR code, information regarding monthly income, the number of ration stores, and whether the house has an electrified connection, LPG gas connection, etc. People are required to pay Rs 25 as a service charge for converting their ration card into a Smart Card.
