COVID spike : 13KL oxygen plant being set up at Kozhikode Medical College Hospital in Kerala
Thiruvananthapuram: With the COVID-19 cases rising drastically, an oxygen plant from the PK Steel complex is being set up at Kozhikode Medical College hospital as part of the ongoing efforts of the Kerala government. The state government sets a cooperative model in fighting the Coronavirus pandemic with the help of Uralungal Labour Contract Cooperative Society (ULCCS), the largest primary workers'' cooperative in Asia. The 13 KL oxygen plant is being translocated to the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital compound," ULCCS Public Relations Officer Manoj K Puthiyavila said in a release here on Thursday.
This was as per the order of the District Collector under the Disaster Management Act. One and a half week long translocation work is being executed by ULCCS free of cost, as part of their social responsibility initiatives. ULCCS, a century old cooperative, is well known in Kerala for their charity activities as well as their commitment to quality and speedy execution of construction works and even returning the balance amount after the completion of projects. Most of the critically ill patients in Kozhikode district seek treatment at Kozhikode Medical College. The District Collector issued an urgent order on May 1 in order to enhance the facilities at Kozhikode Medical College to produce the medical oxygen required for them.
In view of the urgency of the matter, the ULCCS workers started the work of translocating the plant foregoing the May Day holiday. The operation is being carried out with the technical support of the oxygen plant manufacturers. Union Defence Secretary Ajay Kumar took to Twitter to congratulate the ULCCS for reinstalling the oxygen plant. ULCCS said the work would be completed this week.
