Pathanamthitta: Lok Sabha candidate of BJP in Kozhikode, Prakash Babu, who has been remanded to judicial custody for 14 days in connection with a case during Sabarimala agitation, was permitted to submit the nomination papers by the Ranni First Class Magistrate here on Tuesday.
On March 29, the First Class Magistrate Court has ordered the judicial remand of Prakash Babu in connection with an alleged attack on a middle-aged woman who came for Darshan at Lord Ayyappa temple during the Sabarimala agitation. The agitation was followed by September 28 SC verdict allowing the entry of women of menstruating ages into the temple. Earlier an anticipatory plea by the BJP leader was rejected by the High Court. The police had filed seven other cases against him in connection with the Sabarimala agitation.
Prakash Babu, who surrendered before the Pampa police station, was sent to the Kottarakkara sub jail by the court. Conspiracy and attempt to murder were charged against Prakash Babu, 16th accused in the case. Another case was also charged against Prakash Babu for staging a protest march to the residence of Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) president A Padmakumar.
