Former Additional Chief Secretary D. Babu Paul passes away
 
Thiruvananthapuram: Former additional Chief Secretary Dr. D. Babu Paul passed away here on Saturday. He was 78.
He was under treatment at a private hospital for kidney related ailments. Foot infection caused by diabetics, affected his liver and kidneys. He suffered heart attack on Friday morning and was rushed to the KIMS hospital. Later, he suffered a multi organ failure.

Babu Paul was the member of Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB) and was the member of the Ombudsman for local self government institutions.
Babu Paul passed the All India Civil Service examination in 7th rank and joined the Indian Administrative Service in 1964 as a young engineer. He was 21 years old then. He took voluntary retirement from the IAS at 59 and became a member Ombudsman for local self government institutions.
He had served in several positions including Vice Chancellor of Kerala University, Chief Secretary and First Member of the Board of Revenue.

He was the author of several books. Oru Yathrayude Ormakal written at the age of 19 was his first published book. Katha Ithuvare published in 2001 is his autobiographical service story. He is also the writer of the first Bible Dictionary Veda Sabda Rathnakaram which include 4000 titles and six lakhs words.
Babu Paul is the recipient of numerous awards including Gundert Award, Christian Literary Award, Samskara Deepam Award and Rajiv Gandhi Award for his excellence in Civil Service.

The body will be kept at Babu Paul's residence at Mummy's Colony at 12pm. The funeral will takeplae at Kuruppampady Jacovite Church near Perumbavoor at 4pm on Sunday.
Babu Paul is survived by children Mariam Joseph and Cheriyan Paul.
