Kochi: Kerala Congress (M) chief and Former Finance Minister of Kerala K.M. Mani passed away here on Tuesday. He was 86. He breathed his last around 4:57pm. He was the sitting MLA of Pala.
The senior leader was admitted at the Lakeshore hospital in Kochi reportedly with serious respiratory ailments. As per the reports by hospital sources, his health condition showed a slight improvement in the morning. The doctors informed that his body was responding to medicines and his breathing has come to normal. But it worsened in the evening.
He has been suffering from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) for several years and has been frequently hospitalised in the past as well.
Mani is an MLA for 50 consecutive years from Kerala's Pala assembly. Mani holds the records of having presented the maximum number of budgets (thirteen) in the Kerala Legislative Assembly as Finance Minister. He is also the longest serving member of Kerala Assembly.
He is survived by his wife Kuttiyamma, son Jose K Mani (Rajya Sabha MP) and daughters Elsa, Annie, Sally, Tessy and Smitha.
