Kerala not to open Idukki dam today

Idukki: The Kerala government has decided not open the shutters of Idukki dam, as the water level has reduced to 2387.72 feet. The water level was 2387.76 feet since morning.

Although the government expect the rainfall to come down, as per a senior official, it has raised the alarm for the locals.

According to the IMD, the rain is due to a low pressure formed over the South-East Arabian Sea on Friday, which is expected to intensify into a depression and cyclonic storm over the weekend.

As part of precautionary measures, the state banned tourists to Munnar hills on Thursday, and advised fishermen in its coastal regions not to venture out to sea till Monday. Close to Idukki, five teams of National Disaster Response Force are also stationed as stand-by, as per the government.

Idukki is also put on high alert by the weather office on Friday, which tells authorities to take contingency actions.
