Thiruvananthapuram: As many as 3,423 Covid-19 cases detected in Kerala on Monday while 4,494 patients have recovered from the disease, Health Minister KK Shailaja said. The Minister in a statement here this evening said, "of the positive cases reported today, 2,982 people including 34 healthcare workers were infected through contact and the contact source of infection for 359 was unknown." Meanwhile, 27 recent deaths were confirmed today as due to Covid taking the related death toll in the state to 2,843. She said 34,847 samples were tested in the last 24 hours and the test positivity rate is 9.82 per cent. Till now, a total of 73,82,223 samples have been sent for testing.
The district-wise figures of those who tested positive today for Coronavirus infection is Malappuram 626, Kozhikode 507, Ernakulam 377, Palakkad 305, Thrissur 259, Alappuzha 242, Kollam 234, Thiruvananthapuram 222, Kottayam 217, Kannur 159, Pathanamthitta 112, Wayanad 65, Idukki 55 and Kasaragod 43. Today, 48 of those diagnosed with the disease have reached the state from outside. The count for the locally transmitted cases in the districts are Malappuram 596, Kozhikode 488, Ernakulam 297, Palakkad 185, Thrissur 247, Alappuzha 222, Kollam 233, Thiruvananthapuram 155, Kottayam 197, Kannur 135, Pathanamthitta 72, Wayanad 64, Idukki 51 and Kasargod 40. The numbers for the infected medical or para-medical staff from the districts are Thiruvananthapuram, Palakkad & Kozhikode 5 each, Ernakulam & Malappuram 4 each, Pathanamthitta & Kannur 3 each, Thrissur & Kasaragod 2 each and Wayanad 1.
The district-wise tally of the patients who tested negative today are Thiruvananthapuram 227, Kollam 333, Pathanamthitta 250, Alappuzha 202, Kottayam 511, Idukki 35, Ernakulam 476, Thrissur 590, Palakkad 226, Malappuram 694, Kozhikode 495, Wayanad 120, Kannur 304 and Kasaragod 31. A total of 6,45,779 people have so far recovered from Covid in the state while there are 60,504 patients still undergoing treatment for the same. There are presently 2,80,375 persons under observation in various districts of the state - 2,66,765 at their homes or institutional quarantine centres and 13,610 in isolation at hospitals. 1,312 people were admitted to the hospitals today. Eight new places were declared as hotspots today even as nine areas were excluded. There are 457 hotspots in Kerala now.
