Alappuzha: Netherlands'' King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima, who are on a two-day visit to Kerala, were given a warm welcome by top officials including District Collector Dr Adeela Abdulla on their arrival here on Friday. The Royal couple reached here to visit paddy fields, backwaters and a few old Dutch monuments, Official Sources said. "On the last day of the state visit to India, the Dutch Royals took a cruise on the waters of Alleppey.
During the trip, discussions were held on sustainable agriculture & how Dutch knowledge can help prevent future flooding in the area. "The Royal Couple boarded from the Nehru Trophy Boat Race Finishing point cruised to Kuppapuram backwaters, and engaged in a paddy field visit and was dropped back at the finishing point. The delegation had two rounds of meetings on-board the houseboat," sources said.
