Thrissur: Renowned playwright and director Subrahmanyan Namboothiri, fondly called as Thuppettan passed away on Friday. He was 90. He was under treatment for age related ailments in a private hospital at Thrissur.
He won Kerala Sahithya Akademi Award for best drama for his play Vannanthye Kaanaam in 2003. Some of his famous works include Thanathu Lavanam, Marumarunnu, Bhadrayaanam, Mohanasundarapaalam etc.
Thuppettan was born to Vedic Scholar Ittiravi Namboothiri and Devaki Antharjanam in 1929. He Completed his schooling and higher studies at Panjal School, CNN High School, Cherppu, Maharaja's College and School of Arts, Madras.
He worked as a painting teacher at Mundamveli High School for one year and Panjal School for 27 years. He is survived by wife Umadevi, children Savithri, Suma, Ajitha, Raman and Ravi.
