Army foils yet another infiltration bid, 3 heavily armed militants killed in Uri

Srinagar, Alert Army troops foiled yet another major infiltration bid when they killed three heavily armed militants in Uri sector in north Kashmir district of Baramulla on Thursday.

In a joint press conference here this afternoon, GOC 15 Corps Lt General D P Pandey and Inspector General of Police (IGP ) K Vijay Kumar said on September 18 an infiltration bid was made at Angoori post in Uri sector. However, when challenged, militants opened indiscriminate firing with automatic weapons, Lt General Pandey said adding two of the militants had entered this side while four others were on the LoC.

However, when our troops also retaliated, the militants escaped back into other side of the LoC, he said adding that to make sure no militant is on this side, we conducted thorough search for about three days in the entire woods. But, he said no militant was found and operation was called off.

Today there was infiltration attempt in Rampur sector of Uri, Lt Gen Pandey said adding when challenged and asked to surrender, militants opened fire. Troops also retaliated and in the exchange of fire three infiltrators were killed.

Large cache of arms and ammunition, including five AK rifles and eight pistols were recovered from the slain militants, he said.

In reply to a question he said it was not immediately clear from which group the militants belong. We are on it and will inform the media, he said.
