Helmets must for two-wheeler riders, pillions from Dec 1 : HC

Kochi: Kerala High Court on Tuesday made helmets mandatory for both rider and pillion on two-wheelers. The new rule applicable for two-wheeler riders and pillions will come into force from December 1. A Division bench headed by Chief Justice S Mani Kumar directed the state government to implement the Central government order making helmets mandatory for all two-wheeler riders and pillions above the age of four by amending the Motor Vehicles Act.

Although the law was enacted, Kerala government had not implemented it. The rule must be strictly followed, the HC said. The HC also directed the government to issue a circular in this regard and advertise through media and movie theatres. Exemption could not be granted to Kerala in this regard when a Central Law is in force, the Court felt.
