Morena, MP, Passengers aboard the 20848 Udhampur-Durg Express had a providential escape on Friday when they rapidly alighted from two air-conditioned coaches that suddenly caught fire.
Railway authorities said that the blaze erupted when the train was approaching Hetampur Station. Moments later, passengers were evacuated from the bogies. Initial reports said that the fire started after the train had halted at the station.
Senior officials, police and Fire Brigade personnel rushed to the scene and the blaze was brought under control. The cause of the fire is hitherto unclear. Trains were halted along the route. The affected coaches were detached and passengers accommodated in other bogies.
Hetampur is in northern Madhya Pradesh’s Chambal division.
