Delhi lockdown extended till June 7 with relaxations

New Delhi: The National Capital will continue to remain under lockdown till June 7 even as the cases have drastically declined in the past one week.

The city registered 956 cases of COVID-19 and 122 deaths from the virus in the past 24 hours.

However, this time, as the situation seems to be under control, the government has permitted to reopen factories and allowed the construction activities in the capital. The COVID induced curbs will remain effective till 0500 hrs on June 7. Delhi is under a lockdown since April 19 with only emergency and essential services open.

"The situation of Covid-19 in NCT of Delhi has again been reviewed and observed that, though the number of Covid-19 patients and positivity rate is declining, the situation is still precarious, therefore, in order to contain the spread of virus and to further break the transmission chain, curfew needs to be extended for another week in the territory of NCT of Delhi (except for essential activities / services), permitting reopening of certain prohibited activities in a phased manner in areas outside the containment zones for overall well being of the people of NCT of Delhi," the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) said in an order.

DDMA extended the curfew on the movement of individuals except for essential activities in Delhi.

Operations of manufacturing/ production units within closed premises in approved industrial areas and construction activities within their worksites shall be allowed outside the containment zones during the curfew period, the DDMA said in its order.

Other restrictions will continue as before.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had on Friday announced that the ongoing COVID-19-induced lockdown will be relaxed keeping the livelihood of daily wagers in the mind.
