Raj BJP meets Governor over L&O situation
Jaipur: A delegation of Bharatiya Janata Party led by its Rajasthan president Satish Poonia here on Saturday met Governor Kalraj Mishra regarding law and order situation in the desert state.

"Today, we met the Governor to apprise him over the deteriorating law and order situation of the state by the hands of Congress leaders. We have also submitted a memorandum in this regard," Mr Poonia told reporters outside the Raj Bhawan.

The BJP president said that Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has publicly threatened the Governor to bring the Assembly in session, which is not only criminal but also immoral.

"The chief minister should be booked under Indian Penal Code section 124 (Assaulting President, Governor) for his statement," Mr Poonia urged.

Mr Gehlot, while speaking to media, had warned the Governor to conduct Floor test otherwise things will get out of control and he will not be able to prevent it.

"Yesterday, you all saw how the Governor was threatened. His premises was gheraoed. He was put under pressure to sign the papers for a Floor test. This is a criminal and unconstitutional act," Mr Poonia asserted.

Over Congress holding statewide protest on Saturday, the BJP president said Gehlot government has violated Standard Operating Procedure of Disaster Management Act.

"The state is under the grip of COVID-19 pandemic and he (Gehlot) being the chief minister and also holding the Home portfolio, is not only allowing such protest but also participating in it," Mr Poonia remarked.

Leader of Opposition Gulab Chand Kataria, who was also the part of delegation, said though the state Cabinet passed a resolution to conduct an Assembly session, but failed to mention the reason.

"Why the letter moved to the Governor did not have the reason?," he questioned and alleged that Mr Gehlot wants things to be done not constitutionally but unlawfully.

"Slogans like Tab tak dharna chalega, jab tak dastak nahi hongein (The protest will go on till the papers are not signed) were raised yesterday," he said.

The LoP also said that at the time of COVID-19, the government is running away from responsibilities and putting the life of public in danger.

Mr Gehlot and his supporters on Friday staged a sit-in protest in the lawns of the Raj Bhawan, demanding an immediate session of the Assembly for a Floor test. After several hours of confrontation, the Governor accepted their request but did not mentioned the date of commencement of the session.

The Congress has alleged that the BJP is putting pressure on the Governor to not to convene the session as they 'do not' have numbers while the latter called the act highly undemocratic and immoral.

Rajasthan plunged into a political crisis after Mr Pilot and his loyalists revolted against Mr Gehlot and left the desert state.

Later, Mr Pilot was stripped of the dual posts of Deputy Chief Minister and state Congress president. Mr Pilot, along with the rebels, remained cemented in Manesar Hotel, over 280 km away from the Pink City.
