CWG: Sindhu, Srikanth ease into quarterfinals
Birmingham: Indian ace shuttler P V Sindhu and Kidambi Srikanth cruised into the quarterfinals of their respective singles events at the Commonwealth Games 2022 on Friday.
Sindhu defeated Uganda’s Husina Kobugabe 21-10, 21-9 in the round-of-16 women’s singles match.
World championships silver medallist Srikanth ousted Sri Lanka’s Dumindu Abeywickrama beating him 21-9, 21-12 in the men’s singles.
Srikanth will take on Toby Penty of England in the quarterfinals while Sindhu will face Malaysia’s Youth Olympic Games champion Goh Jin Wei for a place in the semis on Saturday.
Young women’s doubles pair of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand trounced Jemimah Leung For Sang and Ganesha Mungrah of Mauritius 21-2, 21-4 to sail into the quarterfinals.
The India duo will play against Richardson Tahlia and Wynter Katherine of Jamaica in the quarterfinals.
