Bengaluru:Brilliant performances by Steyn, Parthiv Patel guided Royal Challengers Bangalore to thrilling 1-run win against Chennai Super Kings in the IPL match here at M Chinnaswamy stadium on Sunday. Chasing a target of 162 runs for victory, CSK were off to a poor start as they lost openers cheaply. Shane Watson (5 runs ) and Suresh Raina (0) got out on successive balls, while Faf du Plessis walked to pavilion on a score of 5 runs. At one point, CSK were struggling badly in the match as they were reduced to 28/4 in 5.5 overs.
However, a 55-run stand between Ambati Rayudu and MS Dhoni brought back CSK in the run-chase. During the middle overs, both Rayudu and MS Dhoni batted cautiously in order to save their wicket. But Rayudu (29) dismissal forced MS Dhoni to take charge and play freely. Dhoni single-handedly took CSK to the doorsteps of victory. However, he failed to take CSK home as Shardul Thakur was dismissed, while taking a single, when CSK needed 2 off the final ball.
Dhoni remained unbeaten on 84 off 48 with 5 fours and 7 sixes. For RCB, Dale Steyn and Umesh Yadav took 2 wickets each, while Navdeep Saini and Chahal claimed one wicket each. Earlier, put in to bat first RCB scored 161/7 in 20 overs. Parthiv Patel was named the Player of the Match for his brilliant innings of 53 runs in 37 balls with 2 fours and 4 sixes.
