IPL 2020: RCB beat MI in Super over
 
Dubai: Royal Challengers Bangalore defeated Mumbai Indians in the Super over of the 13th edition of IPL here at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Monday. Skipper Virat Kohli hit the winning four runs for his team. RCB from 3 matches have won 2 and lost 1 are now at 3rd spot in the IPL points table while MI have slipped to no 5 after playing 3 matches won 1 and lost 2. MI chasing 202 target were 5 runs short in last 2 balls of the last over. However, in the last ball of the last over Pollard hits Udana for four taking the match into a tie.

For RCB Aaron Finch ( 52 off 35 ), Devdutt Padikkal ( 54 off 40) and AB de Villiers (55 off 24), Shivam Dube ( 27 off 10) were the main contributors taking score to 201/3 in 20 overs while for MI Ishan Kishan 99 off 58 and Pollard not out 60 off 24 took their team to 201/5 in 20 overs. In the Super over MI scored 7 runs in Saini''s spell while RCB won the match in the last ball of the last over in Bumrah''s spell. Chasing target Mumbai received early blow when opener Rohit Sharma was bowled by Washington Sundar caught at deep midwicket by P Negi in 2nd over and then in the very next over Suryakumar Yadav (0) fell victim of Udana.

Rohit 8 off 8 balls (1 six). MI lost their first wicket at 14 and second fell at 16. Mumbai lacked good partnership with opening pair of skipper Rohit and de Kock just adding 14 runs for first wicket and then only 2 runs between de Kock and Yadav. For the third wicket de Kock and Ishan Kishan stayed for a while putting up 23 runs. In the 7th over de Kock who was going strongly was bowled by Chahal at 14 in 15 balls with one four. Meanwhile, MI''s half century came in 7.5 over. After de Kock''s departure Hardik Pandya and Kishan steadied the partnership further Kishan smashing two consecutive sixes of Saini''s spell in 11th over.

MI were 4 wickets down at 78 when Hardik Pandya was bowled by Zampa in 12th over. Pandya''s 15 came in 13 balls with one six. The duo of Pandya and Kishan added 39 runs for the fourth wicket partnership. After Pandya''s departure, Pollard came in and along with Kishan put up a brave effort to keep the scoreboard running. However, in 15th over Kishan smashed a six of Chahal over square leg and then a four by Pollard which was dropped at long-off. In the last four overs RCB conceded 79 runs. In 17th over Pollard came all firing hitting three consecutive sixes, and a four in Zampa''s spell bringing down the score to 53 from 18 balls.

But then in 18th over Pollard hammered two consecutive sixes of Chahal and one six came from Kishan. In the same over Pollard''s fifty came off in just 20 balls. MI now needed 31 runs from 12 balls. Kishan came with another six at long-off in 18.5 over of Saini. MI needed 19 runs from 6 balls. Another six by Kishan of Udana''s spell MI still needing 11 runs in 3 balls. Then 2nd six by Kishan, MI 5 runs short in 2 balls. And then in next spell goes down at 99. In the last ball of the last over Pollard hits Udana for four taking the match into a tie. Pollard remained not out 60 off 24. RCB won the match in the Super over.

After being invited to bat first by Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma, RCB openers Aaron Finch and Devdutt Padikkal gave RCB a flying start. The duo scored 59/0 at the end of the powerplay. Padikkal and Finch kept on hammering MI bowlers even after the powerplay. During the process, Australian captain also brought his 14th IPL fifty. Trent Boult gave Mumbai their first breakthrough as he dismissed Aaron?Finch for 52. RCB captain Virat Kohli, who came out to bat next had another poor outing and was dismissed for 3 by Rahul Chahar after playing 11 balls.

After Kohli''s wicket, AB de Villiers joined Padikkal in the middle. Both batsmen tried to get some momentum going in the innings with singles and doubles. Padikkal played some terrific shots to register his 2nd half century of the season. On the other hand, de Villiers smashed Bumrah for boundaries and took 18 runs from the 17th over. In the meantime, Padikkal was caught by Pollard in the bowling of Boult after scoring 54 off 40. AB was joined by Shivam Dube at No 5. From there on, AB de Villiers took the charge and played some cracking shots. He targeted Bumrah and smashed a huge six off the last ball of the 19th over and to get his fifty off 23 balls.

Shivam Dube joined the party in the final over and dispatched two consecutive sixes off James Pattinson. Shivam Dube then came back on the strike on the final delivery as well and with another six took RCB to 201/3 in 20 overs.
