National Games: Another smiling day for J&K fencers, win two medals
 
Jammu: It was yet another smiling day for the Jammu and Kashmir fencers on Saturday after they won individual bronze medals in foil and sabre events in the ongoing 36th National Games in Gujarat.

On Friday, the J&K Women Sabre fencing team won a bronze medal after they lost to Tamil Nadu.

As per reports reaching here, J&K Fencer Riya Bakshi bagged the bronze medal in Women’s Foil Event as she lost to Kerala 15-8 in the semifinals.

Earlier in the pre-quarter finals, she beat her opponent from Tamilnadu 15-9 and in quarterfinals, defeated opponent from Haryana by 15-8.

Meanwhile in the Individual Sabre event, Vishal Thapar won the bronze medal.

Thappar, out of 12 fencers topped in the Pool matches and in the quarterfinal bout, he beat an opponent from West Bengal 15-10 but his dream to sail into the next round ended in the semifinal bout when he lost to Services 9-15 and settled with the bronze medal.

Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council Coaches, Shotu Lal Sharma and Rachna Jamwal are accompanying the fencing contingents while Maninder Pal Singh as Manager.

Convener Adhoc Committee of J&K Amateur Fencing Association, Rashid Ahmed Choudhary and Member, Supriya Chouhan applauded the performance of the medal winners and coaches.

They have also wished them luck for the upcoming events scheduled for October 4.
