New Delhi: A three-time world champion cyclist and Olympic silver medallist Kelly Catlin has died, USA cycling confirmed on Sunday. "The US cycling community suffered a devastating loss with the passing of Kelly Catlin, USA Cycling National Team member," USA Cycling president and CEO, Rob DeMartini said in a statement.
"The entire cycling community is mourning this immense loss. We are offering continuous support to Kelly''s teammates, coaches and staff. We also encourage all those who knew Kelly to support each other through the grieving," it added. Catlin won three straight team pursuit world titles on the track from 2016 to 2018, claiming silver in the same event at the Rio 2016 Games.
"She''s the one person I had shared almost my. entire life with, and I shall miss her terribly," her brother wrote in his Facebook post on Friday. Catlin, who was a USA Cycling national team member, who had won the silver medal in women''s team pursuit at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She was studying for a graduate degree at Stanford University.
The cause of death is unknown, but in an email sent to Stanford students, according to the Stanford Daily, the university''s vice provost for student affairs Susie Brubaker-Cole said, "There is no indication of foul play".
