Washington: As wildfires continue to engulf more areas in Europe, US President Joe Biden on Saturday said that the "national security is at stake".Biden in a tweet said, "Climate change doesn't care whether you're in a red state or a blue state: Hundred-year droughts are threatening farmlands and water sources."He said, "Wildfires out west have burned and destroyed more land than the size of New Jersey.""Our national security is at stake," he added.
The US President also announced new executive actions to combat climate change.The White House in a series of tweet said, "The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is announcing $2.3 billion in funding for its Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities program which will help communities increase resilience to weather hazards before disaster strikes.""To protect Americans from extreme heat, Department of Health and Human service is issuing guidance that, for the first time, expands how the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program can promote the delivery of efficient air conditioning equipment, community cooling centers, and more," it tweeted.
"The Interior Department is proposing the first Wind Energy Areas in the Gulf of Mexico, with the potential to power 3 million homes — a historic step toward expanding offshore wind opportunities to another region of the US," it added.
