Aurangabad: Union Minister of State for Finance on Saturday directed the Regional heads of Banks to expand the banking network and outreach of various government schemes in rural areas of the district.
He gave this instruction during the review meet with Regional heads of Banks convened here under his chairmanship.During the meeting, it was observed that as compared to the state of Maharashtra, banking penetration in Aurangabad district is low and hence, it was necessary to deepen the core banking system (CBS) enabled branch network in the Marathwada region.
After due deliberations, banks assured to open at least 20 branches in Aurangabad district, up to March 2023 to deepen various government-sponsored schemes to grassroots level.
The Union Finance Ministry has advised all banks to cover all eligible account holders under three JanSuraksha schemes (PMJJBY, PMSBY and APY) by September 30, 2024, Dr Karad added.
