Honda 2Wheeler’s ‘Shine’ first 125cc motorcycle to reach 1 cr customers

New Delhi, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India has achieved the milestone of 1 crore customers in India driven by its leadership in the 125cc motorcycle brand ‘Shine’ the company announced on Tuesday. Catering to a growing demand, brand Shine has acquired more than 50% market share with a strong 29% year-on-year growth (year-to-date as per SIAM). Welcoming the response that ‘Shine’ has received over the years, Atsushi Ogata, Managing Director, President and CEO of HMSI said the company was committed to taking on new challenges and offering the best products.

Launched in India with the unique Optimax technology in 2006, Shine became the highest selling 125cc motorcycle in India in just 2 years of its launch and gained the trust of over 10 lakh happy customers in just 54 months since its launch. In 2013 every third 125cc motorcycle sold in India was CB Shine and 2014 saw it achieving 30 lakh sales milestone with 33% market share in the 125cc segment. Between 2017-18, the vehicle moved from the 50 lakh unit sales mark to 70 lakh unit sales milestone. In 2019, the company launched Honda CB Shine in Bharat Stage VI version. “Shine has upheld the benchmark of reliability and quality standards in the 125cc segment,” said Yadvinder Singh Guleria, Director - Sales & Marketing, HMSI.
Honda 2Wheelers India is also expanding its renewable energy portfolio with the installation of its second wind turbine system in Gujarat built with an investment of Rs 176 million. With this, Honda will now produce a total of 4.7 MW wind energy including from its first wind turbine system (2 MW capacity) installed in Radhanpur in Patan district of Gujarat last year and cumulatively meet over 50% of total energy requirements at its 4 manufacturing plants in Manesar (Haryana), Tapukara (Rajasthan), Narsapura (Karnataka) and Vithalapur (Gujarat) from renewable energy resources.

This is part of Honda’s aim of moving closer towards the vision to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. For FY 2020-21, HMSI generated more than 77 Million KWh units’ electricity from renewable resources while offsetting over 55,000 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions in the environment.
