| The Union Govt's move against the Missionaries of Charity is a well-planned attempt to defame Christianity? Opinion |

Followed by the obscure and unfortunate incident that took place in Nirmal Hriday, an institution run by Nuns of Missionaries of Charity at Ranchi, the decision to inspect all the run by the congregation can be interpreted as a well-thought attempt to defame Christians of the country. The order is also bound to defame the dignity possessed by St. Mother Teresa.
This is a move followed by the recent case of alleged illegal adoptions which took place at Nirmal Hriday by unmarried mothers, said The Ministry of Women and Child Development in a statement. Minister Maneka Gandhi has asked all states to inspect the organizations run by the congregation immediately.
The woman who gave birth at Nirmal Hriday left the place saying that she is going to Child Welfare Council and sold the child to another person. A lay employee at Nirmal Hriday helped the woman in this act. Receiving a complaint, Child welfare Council, Social welfare council and the police started investigation.
We and everyone at Nirmal Hriday are cooperating with the investigations and are open for any fair inquiry, said Sister Mary Prema Pierick, Superior General of the Missionaries of Charity.
In the mean time, the mother of the child and the employee of Nirmal Hriday were taken into police custody. The baby was handed over to child welfare council.
After all these issues being sort out, the sister-in-charge of Nirmal Hriday and the Mother Superior were called to the police station where they underwent a mammoth questionning of long 36 hours. The Sister in charge of Nirmal Hriday was arrested and she is still in remand, while the mother superior was left free after the questioning.
Now, the central government has ordered an inspection only at the child-care homes run by the Missionaries of Charity while leaving behind the child-care institutions run by the governent, NGOs, private members, etc.
The Child Welfare Departement and the minister in charge is knowingly trying to concentrate only on the homes run by the missionaries. The government is using the case as a weapon to tarnish the image of the entire Christian Community in the country. This is the latest ring in the chain of attacks against the minority group and Christianity by the central government.
