Amid tussle between BJP-Sena over Govt formation in Maharashtra, Pawar meets Sonia

New Delhi: Amid the continuing impasse over the government formation in Maharashtra, NCP chief Sharad Pawar on Monday met Congress president Sonia Gandhi at her residence.

According to sources, the leaders had discussed the current political situation in the state after a tussle has emerged between the BJP and Shiv Sena over sharing the Chief Minister post.

Sources also said that the meeting, which has lasted around one hour, have discussed the possibilities to form the government by supporting Shiv Sena, if the latter decides to come out from the NDA.

Mr Pawar, however, said that the responsibility of forming the government in the state is with the BJP.

"I cannot comment on whether Shiv Sena will join hands with us. Congress-NCP alliance has not decided on extending support. Have not received any offer from Sena, nor has NCP reached out to them. The mandate for us is to sit in the opposition. We do not have enough numbers to be in this race", Mr Pawar said after the meeting.

The meeting took place amid reports that Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray was in touch with the NCP.

Last week, Congress leaders from Maharashtra had also apprised Ms Gandhi about the political situation in the state.
