Assembly polls: 55 pc voter turnout in Mah, 61 pc in Haryana; exit polls forecast landslide win for Lotus
 
New Delhi: An estimated 55.31 per cent turnout of an eight crore electorate was witnessed till 1800 hrs in Maharashtra while 61.62 per cent of one crore voters in Haryana to choose the next state government in the first elections after the abrogation of Article 370.

Exit polls orecast a landslide win for Bharatiya Janata Party-Shiv Sena combine in the elections to the 228-seat Maharashtra assembly. Haryana will stay with the BJP, according to the forecast.

Polling was by and large peaceful, but affected due to rainfall in several parts of Maharashtra.

Reports of EVM glitches were received from some parts of Maharashtra. However, the voting continued after fixing the faults.

According to election commission, in 2014, 64 per cent voter turnout was witnessed in Maharashtra while 76.54 pc in Maharashtra.

Voting was peaceful for bypolls to 51 assembly seats in 17 states and one Lok Sabha seat apiece in Maharashtra and Bihar.

Arunachal Pradesh (1 seat) witnessed the maximum 90.74 pc polling while Uttar Pradesh (11 seats) lowest 44.71 pc.

Heavy rainfall played spoilsport in Kerala where polling was conducted in five Assembly segments. Indian Meteorological Department issued an “orange” warning in Kerala. However, the election officer stated that the polling will not be postponed and end today itself.
