Punjab releases Rs 3 cr for upgradation of sports infrastructure of 116 schools
 
Chandigarh:The Punjab government has released Rs three crore for 116 more schools as part of the ongoing efforts of the state government to improve the sports infrastructure of the schools.

Stating this here on Monday, a spokesperson of the school education department said that more than 13000 schools have been converted into smart schools. At the same time a campaign has been launched to strengthen sports infrastructure in schools. With this amount of Rs 3 crore, the playgrounds will be constructed and sports equipments will be purchased for the players.

He said the Department has also issued instructions to the district education officers regarding the utilization of the sports funds to bring more transparency in the expenditure.

According to the spokesperson, the schools have been directed to constitute a five member committee for the development of playgrounds and procurement of sports equipments. These committees will be constituted by involving the school head, two members each from SMC (school management committee) and teachers. In case, the school is having the sports teacher, then it will be mandatory to include him/her in the committee.

He said it has also been directed to do the complete photography regarding the construction work of the playgrounds from the starting to the completion of the whole process.

According to the spokesperson, DM Sports / BM Sports have been asked to visit the school during the construction of playgrounds and purchasing of sports tools and equipments. All the concerned officers are instructed for the strict compliance of the rules issued by the education department.
