Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan and Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan condoled the demise of senior CPI(M) leader Kodiyeri Balakrishnan who died at 8.30 pm at Apollo Hospital in Chennai on Saturday.
The Governor tweeted that "Heartfelt condolences on the sad demise of former Minister & senior leader Sri Kodiyeri Balakrishnan.His calm, friendly nature and unwavering commitment to ensuring people's welfare endeared him to everyone."
"The contributions of Sri Kodiyeri Balakrishnan as Minister and as a leader who earned mass support through his involvement in social causes will be long remembered. May his soul attain Mukti."
In a message, the Chief Minister said the death of dearest comrade and brother Kodiyeri Balakrishnan is a great loss to the party and political Kerala.
His ideological commitment, party loyalty, readiness for collective action and ability to keep the party like a well-oiled machine were a shining example for the new generation, he said.
"While treating everyone in a friendly manner, he was careful not to deviate from his stance," the CM added.
In a message, Opposition leader in Kerala Assembly VD Satheesan said Balakrishnan was a friend of all irrespective of politics.
Pointing out that his performance in the State Assembly was notable, the Opposition leader conveyed his condolences to the bereaved family members.
