Train kills elephant, injures calf

Palakkad: A female wild elephant aged around 20 years was killed and its calf injured after a moving train hit them while they were crossing a railway track near Walayar on the Palakkad-Coimbatore railway stretch in Kerala on Friday.
The accident occurred when the Kanyakumari-Guwahati Express train was passing. However, the train services were not disrupted as the carcass of the elephant was found away from the track.
The injured calf reportedly ran into the forest. Forest officials started search operations to locate the calf for providing treatment, official sources said.
