New Delhi: AgustaWestland VVIP chopper scam case alleged middleman Christian Michel James, who is currently lodged at the Tihar Jail, sought an interim bail from the Delhi High Court by submitting a plea that stated he is ill and susceptible to get contracted from the coronavirus. The 59-year-old Michel, submitted through his petition, that he is old and suffering from an illnesses and these two factors make his body more susceptible to the said infection than any other ordinary prisoner with a normal health condition.
The VVIP chopper scam accused, in his interim bail plea, cited Supreme Court''s March 16 order which directed all the States and Union Territories (UTs) to constitute a high level committee to consider releasing prisoners and under-trials for offences entailing up to a seven years jail term on parole or grant interim bail to de-congest jails, in order to contain the spread of coronavirus. Michel was arrested by the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) on December 22, 2018 after his extradition from Dubai.
He is among the three alleged middlemen being probed in the cases filed by the ED and Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
