(New Delhi, Jan10, 2019): Cyber crimes of different nature and the emerging cyber criminals are posing a new challenge , but the police is also accordingly gearing up and is ready to take them on, Delhi Police Chief said here on Wednesday.
Speaking about the cyber crimes and preparedness of the police, Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik during the annual press conference said that Delhi Police is identifying tech-savvy and computer friendly personnel from the force and will further train them to combat the rising cyber threats as the cyber crime is becoming a new platform where different types of crime and criminals are becoming active.
Earlier there was man-power crunch but the department did not let that not affect the probes in cases and now will step up manpower that will further increase the efficiency, said Mr Patnaik. Cyber Crime Cells have been established in every district that are well equipped with specialized required infrastructure, the police said. The cyber crime unit has solved complex hacking cases including those of bitcoin exchanges.
The unit has busted 10 Call Centres which were engaged in international tech-support frauds operating in the national Capital. A hacker group targeting Indian websites was targeted by the cell and two hackers were also arrested. Multiple arrests have also been made in the year gone by in the Crypto Ponzi cases as part of the crackdown on the new age MLM frauds. Sub-Inspectors and support staff with requisite technical training and qualification have been posted in the all districts cyber cells with forensic tools for data memory and smartphones.
The staff is also being trained on fake profiles case studies . phishing , hacking crypto currencies while experts from the field are also regularly called for training purposes. According to Special Commissioner of Police Special Cell, hackers from cross borders have also been nabbed by the special teams that were involved in cyber crimes. Capacity building programmes for cyber probes have also been the focus of the force in terms of the cyber crimes. The hacking attacks include attacks with financial motives, siphoning of funds from victims online using fake identities, alluring them and befooling them over emails, calls and other media.
As per the police , a system has been put in place to tackle cyber crimes at different levels that is Central Cyber Crime Unit , District Cyber Cells and Police Station level cyber teams. The Police chief also stressed on restructuring of the Cyber Cell for Protective Action this year which will include further strengthening of the cyber cell bolstering it against dangerous cyber threats.
