New Delhi/Kyiv: Indian student Harjot Singh, who was hospitalised in Kyiv with bullet injuries sustained in a firing attack while trying to leave Ukraine, is being repatriated to Delhi today, said Puneet Singh Chandhok, president Indian World Forum.

Chandhok, an activist, said in a tweet that Harjot is being repatriated to India as part of Operation Ganga, in coordination with the Indian Embassy in Kyiv, Red Cross Ukraine chapter and others who assisted in the evacuation. He also said that Harjot had lost his passport.

“Harjot Singh #IndiansInUkraine student from Delhi who was shot during the evacuation in #Kyiv and also lost his passport. He is being repatriated to Delhi tomorrow thru @opganga in coordination of @IndiainUkraine @RedCrossUkraine and all others who assisted in this hour of crisis,” he said in a tweet.

Harjot Singh was wounded in a firing attack on his cab on February 27 while travelling towards Lviv on Ukraine's western border, along with two other Indians. He was taken to a hospital in Kyiv. According to his accounts from the hospital bed, the car he was in came under intense firing from buildings around, and he received bullet injuries on his left knee, right thigh, and one bullet went through his arm and entered his chest.

The Indian government has said it will bear the full cost of his treatment.
