New Delhi: In the wake of a death by Nipah Virus in Kerala, the Centre has written a letter to the state on Monday suggesting several measures related to surveillance, contact tracing, hospital administration and coordination in information flow.
In the letter addressed to the state chief secretary, VP Joy, the centre said that active search for cases needs to be undertaken in the containment area as per micro plan provided by the central team.
The centre also said that hospital based and community based surveillance needs to be strengthened. “The district authorities must identify primary and secondary contacts and prepare line listing of high-risk and low-risk contacts,” union health secretary Rajesh Bhushan suggested in the letter.
“All district administrations will have to comply with the accepted norms of home quarantine and there should be an intensive follow up on such cases,” it added.
A twelve-year-old boy died in a private hospital in Kozhikode on Monday. A central team from National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) was rushed to the district and has submitted a preliminary report on the latest outbreak.
The district administration has declared a health alert and has cordoned off the area falling under three kilometres radius to the house of the deceased child, according to the update shared by Kerala's health and family welfare department.
The police have been deployed to restrict vehicle and people movement in or out from the monitored area and officials have also asked the locals to immediately report any instances of fever, vomiting and other health disorders. Health authorities in Malappuram and Kannur have also been alerted to closely monitor the situation, it added.
