Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Wednesday said that 100 people had joined the Islamic State (IS) from the State till 2019. Out of the 100 joined the ISIS, 72 had first travelled to a foreign country for work or other purposes and then got attracted to IS ideology, the Chief Minister told a press conference here this evening. Pointing out that most of the 100 were from Muslim community, he said "out of the 28 who joined ISIS, only five were non Muslims."
Stating that there was no evidence for the forceful conversion of Hindus and Christians to Muslim religion, he said: "Dasmodaran's son Praju, hailing from Thuruthiyad in Kozhikode, was a non-Muslim. Two women among them were married to Christian youths." On narcotic cases, the Chief Minister said 4,941 cases were registered under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act in the State in 2020.
Out of the 5,422 accused in these cases, 2,700 (49.80 pc) were Hindus, 1,869 (34.475 per cent) Muslims and 853 (15.73 pc) Christians. This shows that the involvement of Muslim community in the crime is only proportional to their population. Later, the Chief Minister also demanded an apology from the Pala Bishop for his irresponsible comment on 'love and narcotic jihad' in the State.
