Thiruvananthapuram: In a dip in fresh coronavirus infections, Kerala recorded 3,593 new COVID-19 cases on Monday, pushing the caseload to 4,89,702, while the toll climbed to 1,714 with new 22 fatalities, Health minister K K Shailaja said. As many as 5983 people were cured of the infection, taking the total recoveries to 4,08,460, while 79,410 people are undergoing treatment for the disease, the minister said in a press release here.
Kerala had recorded 5,440 fresh coronavirus cases yesterday. In the last 24 hours, 32,489 samples were sent for testing,taking the aggregate to 51,30,922 specimens examined so far. Twenty-two more deaths, including that of a 13- year-old boy, were confirmed due to COVID-19, taking the toll to 1714. Malappuram recorded the highest number of cases --548, Kozhikode 479, Ernakulam 433 and Thrissur 430, while Idukki saw the lowestnumber of cases with 42, Pathnamthitta 43 and Wayanad 50.
Of the positive cases, 53 were health workers, 61 had come from outside the state and 3070 people were infected through contact. As many as 3,16,096 people are under observation in various districts, of whom 2,96,208 are in home/ institutional quarantine, including 19,888 in hospitals. Two more areas were added to the hotspot list while seven places were removed, the release added.
