New Delhi, The Supreme Court on Monday directed the states to appoint a nodal officer (Secretary of Women and Child Welfare Department) and ensure that steps are taken by the District Magistrates and the District Collectors for effective implementation of the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) 2.0, after hearing the case pertaining to contagion of Covid-19 in Child Protection homes.
A bench of the apex court, headed by Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul, passed the directions after hearing the case.
The top court of the country directed the DMs and the DCs to take steps in accordance with the SOP 2.0 formulated by the National Commission for Protection of Children Rights (NCPCR).
The process of identification has to commence and thereafter, the states have to provide data to NCPCR for later stages as well, the Supreme Court said, and fixed the matter for further hearing after two weeks.
The states are directed to promptly attend the meetings conducted by NCPCR, the Supreme Court said and directed that the DMs and the DCs have to identify, approve and forward the applications of eligible candidates for availing benefits under the PM CARES Scheme.
