Authorities gear up surveillance as yet another health challenge, the Nipah, resurfacing in Kozhikode
 
Kozhikode: The authorities have intensified surveillance and intensified caution in Healthcare in the district and nearby areas after a 12-year boy died of Nipah virus attack on Sunday.

The resurfacing of the dreaded Nipah virus, that caused serious health concern in the district and nearby areas after the first case of Nipah virus infection was reported here in May 2018, has been matter of concern after the infection got undetected even by the Government Medical College Hospital authorities.

Addressing the media after a meeting with health and other officials here on Sunday, the Health Minister Veena George said the route map of the boy who died of Nipah virus will be prepared and published soon.

The authorities have already charted the primary contact list and they have been isolated. A Nipah ward has been opened in medical college and tracing of suspected contacts are underway.

The hospital staff who had come in contact with the deceased boy has been asked go on isolation.

The boy was brought to a local clinic near Mavoor on August 27 after he had severe fever. He was then shifted to medical college hospital and then to a private hospital.

The symptoms could not be identified when he was admitted in the medical college hospital., the Minister said adding that it would be looked into why the hospital authorities unnoticed the case and samples were not taken and sent for investigation, despite there is a history of Nipah infection in 2018.
