Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Friday told the State Assembly that the culprits involved in the custodial death at Peerumedu sub-jail in Idukki would not be allowed to go scot-free. A special probe team has been constituted for an impartial probe into the death of the 49-year-old Rajkumar, he said while replying to a question raised by opposition.
However, Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala asked why murder case was not charged against the police officials responsible for the crime. The family of the victim having links with the CPI(M) alleged that he was subjected to severe torture in the custody, he added. Stating that those who involved in the crime would be punished, the Chief Minister added eight policemen have been suspended.
