COVID-19: Kerala reports first death, positive cases rise to 165 in Kerala, 1,34,370 people under surveillance
 
Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala reported first death due to coronavirus on Saturday, while six more people tested positive, taking the total number of affected cases to 165 in the state, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said here on Saturday evening. Addressing a press conference at the Government Secretariat, the Chief Minister said currently, 1,34,370 people are under surveillance, out of which 1,33,750 under isolation in homes and 620 in hospitals. Stating that one person who was under treatment at Eranakulam Government Medical College died on Saturday morning due to COVID-19, he said this was the first death due to the deadly virus in Kerala.

He said four people, including two from Kottayam and one each from Thiruvananthapuram and Eranakulam, tested negative on Saturday. However, 148 people were newly admitted to hospitals on this day, he added. "This is also to be noted that total 16 positive cases have been cured and they were discharged from hospitals after testing negative so far. Hence, the total cases reported positive in Kerala were 182," the Chief Minister clarified.

"Out of six positive cases of today''s, two are from Thiruvananthapuram District, one each from Kollam, Palakkad, Malappuram and Kasaragod districts," he added. "Out of 6,067 blood samples sent for the Virology Institute, 5,276 tested negative, he said.
