Kannur: The public punishment given by the District Police Chief(DPC) Yahtish Chandra-led squad on Saturday to three persons for defying lockdown turns into row after the video of the incident had gone viral on social media. The DPC-led police team during patrolling at Azhikkal area saw several people on the road side. When the police vehicle stopped near them, three of them remained there while others ran away.
The police team asked them to do squat as punishment for violating the lockdown and the incident was recorded and shared to make awareness to the public. As the video had gone viral, the Opposition criticized the police action. Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president Mullappally Ramachandran termed it as a "barbaric act".
