Thiruvananthapuram: In a tremendous achievement, an elderly couple who had multiple issues and in serious condition has been discharged from the hospital after being cured of COVID-19, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi said on Friday. Addressing a press conference at the Government Secretariat, the Chief Minister said the elderly couple, Thomas (93) and Mariyamma (88) from Ranni in Pathanamthitta district, who had contracted the novel Coronavirus from their son recently travelled to Italy, has been cured fully and discharged from Kottayam Medical College Hospital.
"We see this as an achievement and a testimony to our healthcare system. I would like to place on record our appreciation for all the health workers involved in their treatment and care", he added. Another nurse, Ms Reshma Mohandas who contracted the virus while taking care of the aged couple has also been cured and discharged from the hospital, he said. Out of the 295 cases reported positive in Kerala, 206 patients are those who came from abroad, he said. Out of which, seven were foreign nationals (tourists) and 78 people contracted the virus from primary contact with infected persons.
Three persons who returned from the Tablighi Jamaat at Nizamuddin are currently under observation, he added.
