New Delhi: Arun Jaitley, the former finance minister and BJP veteran, passed away on Saturday. He was 66. Jaitley was admitted to AIIMS following complaints of breathlessness and other issues.
Jaitley was unwell for last two years. He was put under isolation following a kidney transplant surgery. A lawyer by profession, Arun Jaitley was seen as PM Narendra Modi's go-to man during his first term in office. As finance minister, Jaitley presented all of Narendra Modi government's budget since 2014 to 2018. However the interim budget of 2019 was presented by Piyush Goyal as Jaitley was unwell. Also Jaitley has taken the responsibilities of temporarily handling ministries other than his primary portfolio.
Arun Jaitley stopped attending office since April 2018 and was back in the ministry in August 2018. Piyush goyal was in charge of the office at that time. Jaitley didnot contest in 2019 Lok Sabha elections because of his ill-health.
