Kochi: National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Friday filed a petition in the court to extend the custody period of the accused to 180 days in the gold smuggling case even as apart from Sandeep, three other accused have also admitted to the crime.
The custody period of the accused can be extended up to 180 days as per Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. NIA''s petition was made on this basis. A special appeal will have to be filed after 90 days. Hence, NIA had filed the plea. The investigation in the case was progressing, Two accused, including Faisal Fareed are under the custody of UAE police. They have to be repatriated to India.
NIA pointed all these matters in the court. Musthafa, Abdul Asees and Nandagopal are the accused who have admitted to the crime other than Sandeep.
