Kottayam: Terming the election of Jose K Mani as party Chairman is unconstitutional, Kerala Congress (M) working chairman PJ Joseph said the election was done by a ''crowd'' not the party''s State Committee. Talking to newspersons here, PJ Joseph said the Election Commission has authorised him as working chairman to convene the meeting and today''s election by a ''mob'' will not have any legal validity. "According to the constitution of the party, a 10-day prior notice is necessary to convene a meeting.
This was not done in the case of today''s meeting. There must be a returning officer," he said. "In the absence of a Chairman, the working chairman or a person authorised by the working chairman only has the right to convene the meeting," he clarified. To a question on the dispute over the parliamentary party leader, he said at present there is no crisis in this regard in the State Assembly. Meanwhile, senior Kerala Congress (M) leader and party Deputy Chairman CF Thomas MLA said he will stand with the election commission''s decision on party''s recognition.
Saying that he was hurt by the existing factional feud in the party, he stated that conciliatory talk will be continued to end the deadlock.
