Palakkad: Kerala Governor Arif Mohammad Khan has once again criticised the CPI-M led LDF government for passing a resolution in the Assembly against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). Speaking to the media on the sidelines of a function here on Thursday, the Governor reiterated that the citizenship and allied matters comes under the purview of the Parliament and the State has no jurisdiction over the same.
The rule states that the Governor should be informed about decisions taken to approach a Court against something which is against the central government. The Assembly should have suspended the rule prior to making such a move. Those who have difference of opinion on the subject can approach the Court seeking reversal of the law. The Supreme court would give a final word on whether a State is authorised to resolve on something against the Centre, Mr Khan said.
My job, as a Governor, is to protect and defend the law accorded by the President of India. Differences of opinion is common in democratic set up but things could be discussed and come to an agreement'''', the Governor said.
