Kottayam, Kerala Health Minister Veena George on Friday ordered a probe into the kidnapping of a newborn baby from the maternity ward of the Government Medical College Hospital here yesterday. The Medical Education Joint Director has been asked to probe the incident and submit the report to the Government immediately, the Minister said.
Kalamasserry-based 33-year-old woman, Neenu, and her boy friend in Ernakulam were arrested in connection with the incident, police said. The child was taken away by the woman dressed as a nurse. The mother grew suspecious after the child was not returned even after some time. Later, she informed the incident to the nurses there on duty. After receiving a complaint from the medical college, the police reached the spot and checked CCTV visuals in the area.
Later, the police nabbed the woman with the child from a hotel premises near the hospital. There were reports that she kidnapped the child to force his lover to marry her by claiming that it was his child. Though she was pregnant, she suffered a miscarriage later. This was not informed to the lover by the woman.
